The Elixir of Life: Water or Green Tea?

Just like water, is a natural Green tea safe to be consumed every day? This is a question that we all ask ourselves. Proper hydration is vital and while green tea can make up a great part of your daily fluid intake, it should not be the only beverage you drink each day.

Green Tea vs Water for Hydration

Water constitutes the majority of your body’s weight and is essential for all basic functions and systems.

On the other hand, drinking three cups of green tea a day is good for keeping you hydrated in comparison to one litre of water. However, a regular consumption of green tea can dehydrate the body because of its caffeine content, whereas water keeps the body hydrated.

Water requirement may also depend on the climate and the amount of physical activity one engages in. In such cases, more water intake is needed to restore balance in your system.

Daily Green Tea Consumption

Three cup of green tea are recommended for daily consumption. However, green tea naturally contains caffeine, and too much consumption can lead to excessive caffeine intake that is not good for your health. All types of green tea contain some caffeine. Thus, substituting the recommended eight cups of water with eight cups of green tea could be unhealthy, as it will lead to excess caffeine consumption.

An excessive amount of consumption of green tea can also make you feel jittery. You may have trouble sleeping or experience a general sense of restlessness. Drinking an excessive amount of water is also unhealthy as it flushes out the essential nutrients from the body.

Hence, excessive intake of anything is not good for your body, whether it’s green tea or water.
