What is PCOD?

De-stressing yourself: Stress has been found to be another factor contributing to this condition. Keeping one’s mind free of stress is significant for a healthy mind and body. Yoga and meditation help in reducing stress.
Eat healthily: Having a diet with low carbohydrates, low sugar, low salt, and high fibers and high proteins is recommended for women who are affected with PCOD. Altering one’s eating habits has proved to be very helpful in curing this condition.
Following are a few foods that can be included in the diet for curing PCOD:
High fiber diet: Women with PCOD become resistant to insulin and thus are not able to use the produced insulin effectively. Therefore, to produce productive insulin levels, you must include cruciferous vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower, beans, lentils, legumes, sweet potatoes, and berries in your diet.
Omega-3 Rich Foods: They help to lower bad cholesterol level and boost good cholesterol level. Food such as fish, olive oil, nuts and seeds are rich in Omega-3.
Lean protein: Include tofu, chicken, and fish in your diet. These foods help to keep a check on high insulin level and aids weight loss too.
Low glycemic diet: Women with PCOD are insulin resistant. Therefore, it is advised to take a restricted carbohydrate diet. Low glycemic foods include fruits and vegetables, and foods made from whole grains, whole wheat, and whole four.
Anti-inflammatory foods: PCOD may also cause inflammation which in turn causes hormonal imbalance. Increasing the intake amount of tomatoes, kale, spinach, almonds, walnuts, and olive oil in your diet can help in reducing PCOD symptoms.
Foods to avoid during PCOD:
Processed foods: Make sure you limit the number of processed foods such as junk food, canned products, and fried foods, as they contain high sodium and may also contain unhealthy fat. It will only worsen the condition, so it’s best to avoid such foods.
Dairy products: A regular consumption of dairy products will increase testosterone levels and further elevate PCOD symptoms. Instead, prefer having skim milk than full-fat milk.
Refined carbohydrates: High content of carbohydrates leads to conditions such as diabetes and excessive weight gain in PCOD affected women. Foods such as white bread, pasta, sugary foods should be avoided as they lead to a high blood sugar level.
Soy products: Avoid all soy products as these products can cause a delay in ovulation and may lead to complications in pregnancy.
